Lighting Our Family Church Stage

My husband has the patience of a saint when it comes to me presenting him with a zillion tasks not only around our house but also for my disabled sister whose own husband is often away on business.  There is no kind of handyman work my hubby doesn’t attempt. He’s got long ladders and recently cleared the gutters both of my big sister’s house and our own and I was telling this to the pastor at church the other day expecting him to tell me how I could get hubby a sainthood. To my amazement he asked if he could meet him about the church stage lighting as he had acquired some new equipment but didn’t know how he could get it fixed up!

Churches Should be Lit Well

Occasionally we had visited my sister’s church where stage lighting had been installed a few years back. We could see how great it is for the service to be illuminated and the choristers too lit by a backdrop but our church is smaller and to be honest we were quite used to it dim! But if you want to attract younger members you need to have the latest in everything so it was extremely generous of a local company to provide the hardware at cost. However, due to our commitments, after my husband installed the equipment we knew he was unable to attend the necessary, regular production meeting about the lighting programs required.

Everyone know my husband played a wonderfully generous part in the installation but it had to be up to the committee and the pastor to find a technical director to liaise with the worship leader to ensure the vision for each service is realised. I don’t think when you see a church stage all lit up you think how there’s a different color for different hymns or for conversation - but believe me there’s quite a deal of discussion behind every service! It seems every wish is granted in our church because we quickly found a volunteer who is perfectly at home with the topics and understands the console and all the switches very well. He’s proactive and always matches the action well with the lighting and it’s most heart-warming to know in some small way our family also played an important role in the success of stage lighting our church.
